Director's Message

A Message from the Founder & Director

Scholarly communication depends not only on the creation of knowledge, but on its ability to remain identifiable, verifiable, and accessible over time. As publishing platforms evolve, migrate, or disappear, the responsibility to protect scholarly records becomes more critical than ever. SEIPID was conceived from this responsibility—to ensure that scholarly outputs are not lost to technical fragility or administrative neglect. It is built with the understanding that persistence is not a feature, but a commitment.

The development of SEIPID is rooted in years of close engagement with journals, institutions, and research infrastructures across diverse academic contexts. These experiences consistently revealed gaps between theoretical standards and real-world publishing practices, particularly for small and emerging journals. Rather than imposing complexity, SEIPID is designed to support clarity, accountability, and practical governance through structured identifiers and transparent registry records. The aim has always been to serve scholarly communities as they are, not as idealised models assume them to be.

SEIPID operates on the principle that identifiers should represent scholarly entities themselves—not merely their current locations. By maintaining metadata-first public records, audit-ready updates, and resolver-based access, the system ensures continuity even when external circumstances change. This approach allows records to evolve responsibly while preserving citation stability and institutional trust. Persistence, in this sense, becomes a shared responsibility between the registry and its participants.

As Founder & Director, I view SEIPID not as a finished product, but as a long-term scholarly infrastructure that must grow carefully, ethically, and transparently. Its future depends on responsible governance, continuous evaluation, and collaboration with institutions that value integrity over convenience. We remain committed to developing SEIPID as a stable, inclusive, and future-ready system—one that safeguards scholarly identity for generations to come.
